Welcome to McKee Class
with Mrs Broadbridge, Mrs Dodd and
This half term we will be continuing our topic 'Who cares for me in the community?', To support our learning we will be using non- fiction books about the emergency services, and reading stories about them in action. We will also be learning about other people who support us, for example, bus drivers, post deliverers, refuse collectors teachers and librarians. We will be beginning our topic 'From garden to plate.' by sharing the traditional tale 'Jack and the Beanstalk'.
In Mathematics we will be learning about recreating and creating patterns, comparing objects by size as well as continuing our learning about numbers and counting.
We will continue to encourage the children to take an interest in growing plants and the changing seasons.
The children will be offered a variety of play based, cross curricular activities to support their learning across the seven areas of learning of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
Communication and Language
Activities designed to help the children develop their listening, understanding and speaking skills.
Activities to help children develop co-ordination, in both large scale movements e.g. running, jumping and climbing, and finer movements such as those involved in writing, cutting and sticking.
Physical development also promotes acquiring independence in health and self care.
Personal Social and Emotional Development
Activities to foster self confidence and self awareness, managing feelings and behaviour, and making relationships. Including the development of vital social skills such as playing co-operatively with others, sharing, turn taking and following instructions.
A range of activities designed to develop early reading and writing skills, such as listening to and talking about stories, joining in with rhymes and mark making.
Activities to develop early ideas of number, shape, measures and pattern.
Understanding the World
Activities to help the children understand early concepts relating to themselves and their families, science, geography, history, technology and ICT.
Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)
Activities to help the children learn about colour, texture, singing and music, dance and imaginative play.
Much of our learning will be based on well known stories. Please see the regular home learning letters to see which story we are using and activities you can do with your child at home to support their learning in school.
McKee and Ahlberg will be doing PE on Fridays, on this day please can your child come to school wearing jogging bottoms and plimsolls. Earrings should not be worn to nursery on Fridays.
The nursery children play outside under the covered area whatever the weather, so it is important to have a sensible coat to wear. Please encourage your child to put on and take off their own coat. As the sun gets stronger and brighter it is important to apply sun cream before coming to nursery.
The children will be changing their library books on Wednesday, however, book bags should be brought to school every day as there are always things to bring home.
We are always pleased to learn about the children's achievements and experiences out of school so we can acknowledge them and include them in their learning journeys. The WOW slips are a an ideal way of doing this and we also have 'The Gallery' to display pictures etc that the children have done at home.
If you have any questions or concerns do please speak to a member of the nursery team.
