Welcome to Murphy class

Autumn term 2
29th October - 21st December
This term we will be retelling the story of The Gingerbread Man.
The children will be introduced to the story using a story map. They will use the pictures and actions to help them retell the story. They will then attempt to draw their own story maps to confidently and independently retell the story. Using speed words they will attempt to write sentences about the story. They will definitely have the opportunity to follow instructions to make gingerbread man biscuits. The children will be observing the weather and talk about changes in the weather as well as talk about changes in the season. They will share ideas on how different celebrations are celebrated.
In maths the children will learning about each digit from 1 - 10. As they learn to form each digit correctly, they will show they are able to count accurately for each digit and count out the correct number of objects to match the digit. They will continue to consolidate their counting skills by joining in with counting songs.
Children will have the opportunity to talk about the things they are good in, including things they are interested in. Other aspects of their learning will involve how to manage conflict and steps they can follow to resolve conflict. we will definitely revisit our class rules to ensure all children are making the appropriate choices in class.
PE day is on a Monday. PE lessons form an integral part of your child's learning. Please ensure your child has the correct attire for PE - black shorts and white t-shirt. Please label all items of clothing.
We will visit the library once a week. Our library day is on a Tuesday. Please ensure all library books are brought into school every Tuesday. It is important that all library books are brought into school on this day so children can get a new book to take home every week.
Maths homework will be given once a week. Please complete one page a week. (The page will be dated).
Every month children will be given a values homework. Children will receive a new value on the first of every month. The homework should be completed and handed in by the end of the month. Please read the value statements to help your child create a fantastic piece of work. The best piece from each class will be displayed in the hall for all to view.
All children have a reading book that is changed every Monday. Please read or share the book with your child and record in the reading record with a signature. If your child reads 5 times a week they will receive a red sticker. If your child reads every day for 6 weeks they can win a price. Your child can read any book, not only books received in school.
Any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask the adults or ring the office to make an appointment.
