Welcome to Murphy class
with Mrs Roula (class teacher), Mrs Arif
and Mrs Matthew (support staff)
7th January - 15th February
This term we will be retelling a children's favourite - We're going on a Bear Hunt.
The children will be introduced to the story using a story map. They will use the pictures and actions to help them retell the story. They will then attempt to draw their own story maps to confidently and independently retell the story. Using speed words they will attempt to write sentences about the story. They will also be learning some interesting facts about Bears. Some nursey Rhymes we will be learning are:
I can sing a rainbow
Incy wincy spider
I hear thunder
Elephants have wrinkles
Hickory dickory dock
The children will be looking at past and present events and looking at similarities, patterns and change. They will have the opportunity to observe features of their own environment and compare how environments differ.
In maths the children will learning the names of a variety of 2Dand 3D shapes. They will then use properties of these shapes to describe the shapes. They will compare two groups of objects saying which has more and which has fewer. Children will be introduced to the concept of finding the 'total number of items' in two groups. They will also be given the opportunity to order familiar events correctly.
Children will develop confidence in talking to and in front of others. They will continue to form positive relationships with adults and peers. They will develop their skills to negotiate and solve problems independently.
PE day is on a Monday. PE lessons form an integral part of your child's learning. Please ensure your child has the correct attire for PE - black shorts and white t-shirt. Please label all items of clothing.
We will visit the library once a week. Our library day is on a Tuesday. Please ensure all library books are brought into school every Tuesday. It is important that all library books are brought into school on this day so children can get a new book to take home every week.
Maths homework will be given once a week. Please complete one page a week. (The page will be dated).
Every month children will be given a values homework. Children will receive a new value on the first of every month. The homework should be completed and handed in by the end of the month. Please read the value statements to help your child create a fantastic piece of work. The best piece from each class will be displayed in the hall for all to view.
All children have a reading book that is changed every Monday. Please read or share the book with your child and record in the reading record with a signature. If your child reads 5 times a week they will receive a red sticker. If your child reads every day for 6 weeks they can win a price. Your child can read any book, not only books received in school.
Any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask the adults or ring the office to make an appointment.
Thank you for your continued support.
