Welcome to Murphy class
16th April - 25th May
Our topic this half term is minibeasts.
We start the term reading the story - Superworm. Superworm as the title suggests is about a super worm who is super long and super strong. Superworm is captured by Wizard Lizard who keeps him as a slave.
The children will be introduced to the story using a story map. They will use the pictures and actions to help them retell the story. They will then attempt to draw their own story maps to confidently and independently retell the story.
In maths the children will be learning to double and half numbers to 20. They will continue to improve on their calculation skills of adding and subtracting. They will measure capacity using measuring jugs - comparing and ordering capacity. As previously they will use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They will further explore the characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.
Other aspects of their learning involve behaviour expectations in different settings, knowing how to resolve conflict, discussing things they are good at and the health benefits of different food.
We will continue to use the Primary Writing Project to help improve children's writing skills. The Primary Writing Project is designed to help schools implement Talk for Writing at a whole-school level by providing support and training over a sustained period of time. The aim of the Primary Writing Project is to motivate children and teachers as readers and writers, deepening understanding and refining skills so that children make good progress and standards are raised.
