Welcome to Murphy class
with Mrs Roula (class teacher)
and Mrs Matthew (teaching assistant)
4th September - 19th October
Our topic this half term is Harvest.
We start the Autumn term reading a favourite story among children - The Little Red Hen.
The children will be introduced to the story using a story map. They will use the pictures and actions to help them retell the story. They will then attempt to draw their own story maps to confidently and independently retell the story. They will also be working with Peppa's Vegetable Garden. The children will be learning about growing plants and where food comes from. They will be given an opportunity to give their views on the importance of sharing food.
In maths the children will begin to recognise the digits from 1 - 10. They will continue to consolidate their counting skills by joining in with counting songs. They will then compare different quantities. They will be introduced to numicon and begin to explore the symbols. They will be introduced to addition and subtraction symbols and related vocabulary.
Other aspects of their learning involve behaviour expectations in different settings, knowing how to resolve conflict and demonstrating friendly behaviour, initiating conversations and forming good relationships with peers and familiar adults
We will continue to use the Primary Writing Project to help improve children's writing skills. This year being the first full year of The Primary Writing Project. This Writing Project is designed to help schools implement Talk for Writing at a whole-school level by providing support and training over a sustained period of time. The aim of the Primary Writing Project is to motivate children and teachers as readers and writers, deepening understanding and refining skills so that children make good progress and standards are raised.
PE day is on a Monday. PE lessons form an integral part of your child's learning. Please ensure your child has the correct attire for PE - black shorts and white t-shirt. Please label all items of clothing.
We will visit the library once a week. Our library day is on a Tuesday. Please ensure all library books are brought into school every Tuesday. It is important that all library books are brought into school on this day so children can get a new book to take home every week.
Maths homework will be given once a week. Please complete one page a week. (The page will be dated).
Every month children will be given a values homework. Children will receive a new value on the first of every month. The homework should be completed and handed in by the end of the month. Please read the value statements to help your child create a fantastic piece of work. The best piece from each class will be displayed in the hall for all to view.
All children have a reading book that is changed every Monday. Please read or share the book with your child and record in the reading record with a signature. If your child reads 5 times a week they will receive a red sticker. If your child reads every day for 6 weeks they can win a price. Your child can read any book, not only books received in school.
Any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask the adults or ring the office to make an appointment.
Thank you for a wonderful start to the term.
