Welcome to Murphy class
At Whitefield Primary we have started using the Primary Writing Project to help improve children's writing skills. The Primary Writing Project is designed to help schools implement Talk for Writing at a whole-school level by providing support and training over a sustained period of time. The aim of the Primary Writing Project is to motivate children and teachers as readers and writers, deepening understanding and refining skills so that children make good progress and standards are raised.
This term our topic is 'Heroes and Villains'. We start off with the story 'Super Daisy'. Super Daisy is the story about a girl who turns into a super hero to try and save planet earth. Using our story map, the children have been retelling the story with much enthusiasm. They have also designed and made their own superhero costume. The story will link to all areas of the curriculum. The children will also learn about people who help us. They will then learn some facts about outer space and planets. In PSED they will talk about a super power they would like to have and the following week they will talk about how to make things fair for others.
In maths the children will be using their number skills to build on their number bonds to 10. They will revisit and improve on their calculation skills of adding and subtracting. They will measure weight using scales, comparing and ordering weight. They will use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They will then explore the characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.
