Year 1 - Potter

Welcome to Potter Class

As we enter the second half of spring term, year 1 are learning about Corduroy Bear and Little Bear - who goes for a walk.

Within this we are going to be learning to give computers simple algorithms or instructions, finding out about the different materials that toys are made from and why they are made from those materials. We are also going to find out about what toys in the past were made from.

Our Maths for the half term will focus on place value and adding, taking away, length, as well as comparing and answering word problems using the skills we have learnt so far.

Children should read at home every day (so they can earn their RED awards) and we will change their reading books twice a week. We will also change our library books once a week.

PE kits need to be at school every day, as we have a variety of PE lessons, as well as extra sporting activities. Please ensure that a bag with a white t-shirt, black shorts and a pair of trainers or plimsolls is at school every day.  In the colder months, warm clothing such as a tracksuit should also be sent in.

Information for Parents: The Phonics Screening Check

The phonics screening check is a short, simple test taken by Year 1 children in England each June to assess their reading ability. Parents can watch our short video to find out what happens during the check and why it's useful.
