Summer Term in Rosen Class

As we come into summer term, we are excited that we are going to be looking at the differences between living in Luton and on an island. We are

going to enjoy the stories of Katie Morag, and focus on the Isle of Struay, where she lives. We will also be learning about the different seasons.

In our Maths learning we will be continuing to learn our number facts; developing confidence when counting in twos, fives and tens, being able to add and subtract two digit numbers and one digit numbers.

Our PE lessons

These remain on Monday and Tuesday mornings.

Home Learning: Maths is sent home on Fridays. The values homework goes home on the first Monday of each month. The children need to do their reading everyday. Check out Bug Club if you want more books to read.

Its time for Spring 2 in Rosen

As we enter the second half of the spring term, we are going to be learning and enjoying the story of Stickman, and other Julia Donaldson stories. We will be going through several experiences that Stickman has to go through, retelling the story and writing our own version of the story.

We will be heading off to Standalone Farm for a trip to help us identify different animals, what they eat and how we could sort them.

In maths we will be doing more learning around adding and taking away numbers to 20, and we will be developing our counting to 100 and back in ones, twos, fives and tens.

Our PE remains on Monday and Tuesday, so please make sure your child has PE kit on those days.

We also have reading for the children to do each evening, maths each week and values homework each month.

Jack and the Beanstalk story retelling

Its Spring Term in Rosen

First of all, we are excited to welcome Mrs Dabb to our team this term.

As we enter the spring term in Rosen class we are telling the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. This will be part of our English lessons, science lessons and art lessons. We also have Forest School this term and Jack and the Beanstalk will feature in these sessions.

On Fridays Rosen class will be doing Forest School, please make sure that the children have warm clothing and wellies for these sessions.

PE will be on Mondays and Tuesdays, please ensure that the children have their PE kits for these lessons.

Remember to hear your child read each evening, and sign their reading record. They can read anything, the important thing is that they read. Bug Club is a great option for this as well (

Welcome to Rosen Class

This half term in Rosen Class we are finding out about the Gun Powder Plot in our history and art lessons, we are doing lots of learning linked to traditional tales and looking at the human body in our science lessons.

The children need to do their reading each evening (sign the reading records when they read). The reading books will be changed twice a week. Values homework is given out at the start of the month and should be returned on the last Monday.

PE is still Mondays and Tuesdays - please make sure PE kit stays in school.

Handa's Surprise

In Rosen Class we were introduced to Handa's Surprise during our transition days. We used sponges to create pictures of Handa's basket, we wrote about our favourite fruit and we found out what happened to Handa in the story.

As we go into the new term we will be finding out more about Handa in all our learning.

Bring your PE kit in on the first day back, we will let you know the PE days as soon as we have sorted them.

Information for Parents: The Phonics Screening Check

The phonics screening check is a short, simple test taken by Year 1 children in England each June to assess their reading ability. Parents can watch our short video to find out what happens during the check and why it's useful.
