Thank you for sending your children in their full school uniform they are all looking very smart and it's a great start to the school year.
In Autumn, year 6 will continue to develop their writing skills through various genres through the primary writing project.The aim of the Primary Writing Project is to motivate children and teachers as readers and writers, deepening understanding and refining skills so that children make good progress and standards are raised.Presently we are writing a warning story and an information text.
We will be consolidating various mathematical concepts using the Inspire Maths Scheme.
Place value in 6-digit numbers (PV additions/subtractions).
Add and subtract 1s, 10s, 100s, 1000s, 10,000s and 100,000s.
Place 6-digit numbers on a line and compare pairs of numbers; use < and >.
Revise using column addition to add pairs of 5-digit numbers with 5-digit answers.
Use column addition to add pairs of 5-digit numbers with 6-digit answers.
Understand place value in numbers with three decimal places.
Multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000.
Place numbers with 3 decimal places on lines; round to the nearest 0.01, 0.1 or 1; Compare 2 numbers.
Our book for this half term is Street Child by Berlie Doherty set in the Victorian period.
Jim Jarvis is a runaway. When his mother dies, Jim is all alone in the workouse and desperate to escape. But London in the 1860s is a dangerous and lonely place for a small boy and life is a constant battle for survival. Just when Jim finds some friends, he is snatched away and made to work for the remorselessly cruel Grimy Nick, constantly guarded by his vicious dog, Snipe.

Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child's PE kit is in school on a Monday .
Library books to be returned on a regular bases.
Year 6 extended day is every Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30. Refreshment provided.
Small group tuition is every Friday from 2:00 until 3:00
