This half-term we will be reading The White Horse of Zennor by Michael Morpurgo.
In English we will be following the 'Talk for Writing' structure. We will be studying 'The Giant's Necklace'. This is a story where our main character Cherry goes on a journey whilst on holiday with her family. There are a few unexpected twists and turns along the way! The children will be learning the story, innovating and then writing their very own story. We will also be completing setting descriptions, diary entries and letters.
We will be exploring shape (both 2D & 3D) and the properties of different shapes. This term we will spend time learning about reflections, translations and enlarging by scale factors. We will be learning about statistics including pie charts and line graphs. We will also continue to develop our arithmetic skills across the subject and continue to develop our reasoning skills.
As part of our integrated curriculum lessons, we will be studying key aspects of physical geography in Cornwall and how natural resources are used. We will also use maps and atlases to locate places. Year 6 will be studying the history of tin mining in Cornwall. Also, we will be learning about grouping living things, using classification systems and researching unfamiliar animals and plants and then deciding how they should be classified. As part of our computing work, the children will be creating a short advert linking to our studies of Cornwall.
Children will need to read everyday at home. They will come home each day with a reading book and a reading record. Please make sure these are signed to show that the children have read. The class are able to change their book whenever they have finished their last book. We will be hoping to win the RED award as much as possible in Kipling class!
