Year 6 - Kipling

Welcome to Kipling Class

This half-term we will be reading Journey to Jo'burg by Beverley Naidoo.

English

In English we will be following the 'Talk for Writing' structure. We will be studying a 'Wishing Tale' called 'Mombe and Momo'. A copy of our story is at the bottom of this page if you would like to read it at home with your child. This is a story where our main characters are wishing for something but may not get what they quite expected or hoped for. The children will be learning the story, innovating and then writing their very own story.

Maths

We will be exploring fractions. We will be learning how to order and compare fractions, add and subtract fractions with different denominators and how to multiply fractions. Year 6 will also be studying how to calculate equivalent fractions and how to simplify fractions. We will also continue to develop our arithmetic skills across the subject and continue to develop our reasoning skills.

Science

This half-term, Year 6 will be learning about the evolution and inheritance. Within this, we will be exploring adaptation and how adaptation may lead to evolution.

Topic

We will be learning about the history of South Africa and studying apartheid. Year 6 will also be learning about Nelson Mandela.

During this half-term, Year 6 will have the opportunity to learn about mountains in our topic lessons.

Homework

Children will need to read everyday at home. They will come home each day with a reading book and a reading record. Please make sure these are signed to show that the children have read. The class are able to change their book whenever they have finished their last book. We will be hoping to win the RED award as much as possible in Kipling class!

Maths & spelling homework is sent home on a Monday and is due in on a Friday each week.
