Year 6 – Rowling

Welcome to Rowling Class

With Miss Burke and Miss Drew!

In Autumn,  year 6 will continue develop their writing skills through various genres through the primary writing project. The aim of the Primary Writing Project is to motivate children and teachers as readers and writers, deepening understanding and refining skills so that children make good progress and standards are raised.

We have learnt the story of Mombe and Momo and will be writing our own wishing story. We will also be looking at how to write a biography. We are focussing on the use of speech within our writing and looking at how to vary our sentences.

Please make sure that your child is completing their REDS every week- this really helps their writing!

In maths, we will be looking at fractions. We will be learning to add, subtract, multiply and divide them as well as finding fractions of an amount and equivalent fractions. We will also be introducing algebra. We do a weekly arithmetic test to check children's progress.

To help your child achieve all that they can, please ensure that maths homework is completed weekly.

Our book for this term is Journey to Jo'burg by Beverly Naidoo. It explores the journey of two children living in apartheid South Africa who make a dangerous journey to save their sister. We will also be learning about Nelson Mandela.

In science, we are looking at evolution, adaptation and inheritance.

In geography, we will be learning about mountains.

Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Please ensure that your child's PE kit is in school on a Monday.

Year 6 extended day is every Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30. Refreshment provided.
