Our class text this half term is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K Rowling.
Are you ready for a magical experience?
Harry Potter has never heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat number four Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then,on Harry's eleventh birthday a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Hagrid bursts in with some ASTONISHING news. Harry Potter is a wizard and he has a place at HOWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY.
In maths we will be securing place value and number sense.
Place value in 6-digit numbers (PV additions/subtractions).
Add and subtract 1s, 10s, 100s, 1000s, 10,000s and 100,000s.
Place 6-digit numbers on a line and compare pairs of numbers; use < and >.
Revise using column addition to add pairs of 5-digit numbers with 5-digit answers.
Use column addition to add pairs of 5-digit numbers with 6-digit answers.
Understand place value in numbers with three decimal places
Multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000.
Place numbers with 3 decimal places on lines; round to the nearest 0.01, 0.1 or 1; Compare 2 numbers.
Add 2 or 3 amounts of money using column addition; Use rounding to check answers.
Add 2 or 3 numbers with 2 decimal places in a measures context, e.g. metres; Use rounding to check answers
Perform mental calculations using addition and subtraction.
Solve problems involving subtraction
Classify and sort quadrilaterals.
Revise angles round a point on a line; Find missing angles.
Know the totals of angles inside triangles and inside quadrilaterals and use to find missing angles.
Find that opposite angles are equal; find angles in polygons.
Find common multiples and factors.
Identify prime numbers, recognising their properties; Find numbers which have a pair of prime factors.
Find equivalent fractions; Simplify fractions using multiples and factors.
Compare and order fractions with unrelated denominators.
Find unit and non-unit fractions of amounts
Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child's PE kit is in school on a Monday.
Library books to be returned on a regular bases.
Year 6 tuition every Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30. Refreshment provided.
